Thinking About a Summer Bridge Camp?
A note from Patty Tucker for teachers considering starting a summer bridge program.
A Letter from Patty Tucker
Dear Jump Start Teacher,
We are so glad you have expressed an interest in the Jump Start Bridge (JSB) program. JSB was initially formed to provide you the opportunity to teach your students bridge. Originally an initiative of Atlanta Junior Bridge (AJB), JSB has grown so successfully that it is now its own non-profit entity. Both JSB and AJB have a significant history in offering local opportunities for young players to continue to learn outside the classroom. The goal is to provide a safe and happy environment for the youngsters to play the game with other children in your area. We think a summer camp provides a wonderful opportunity to support the efforts you started during the previous school year and to give students a head start on curriculum that will be introduced during the fall term. There are many summer camp variations that can be structured any way that works for you. We recommend a one-week camp with either 2-hours a day of bridge, or a ½ day of bridge with some other activity filling in the remainder of the day (think Golf & Bridge). Almost every child has one week during the summer where no other camp or activity is planned. The camp could be held a local church, recreation center, library, school, bridge club or any other locations you know of in your area that could accommodate your needs. You don’t need to be a ‘great’ bridge player to teach beginning classes or even know how to play the game of bridge. The curriculum is easy to follow and JSB provides a help line if you have questions. We can also help connect you with the local bridge club who can provide hands on support before and during the camp. And you get paid for your efforts!
JSB will provide you
A $350 stipend to participating Teachers completing a five day summer camp
Teaching supplies (boards, bidding boxes, table direction mats),
Advertising templates for camps and classes
Support via email, phone, or zoom.
Other support may be available if needed.
It will take at least 1-2 months to get your program in place for the summer, but it’s
worth it!
Please contact me if you are interested in learning more. Thank You!
